Paint Your Shoes: Still-Life Painting for Beginners

Join artist Olivia Franklin for a guided two-hour acrylic painting workshop inspired by her ongoing body of work, In Their Shoes. Using a reference photo, participants will create a still-life painting of a favorite or meaningful pair of shoes while exploring the stories everyday objects can hold.

Choose a pair with a story: your wedding shoes, a baby’s first pair, hiking boots from a memorable trip, shoes that defined a particular chapter of your life, or simply a pair that reflects your personal style.

To make the class approachable for beginners, Olivia will lightly sketch each participant’s shoes onto their canvas before the workshop. Participants must submit a clear reference photo no later than 72 hours before class so their canvas can be prepared in advance.

During the workshop, Olivia will guide students step by step through color mixing, layering, brushwork, and techniques for capturing shape, texture, and detail. No prior drawing or painting experience is needed.

By the end of class, each participant will leave with a completed acrylic painting on canvas and a one-of-a-kind piece inspired by their own story.
