Explore the Outdoors: Brown Park
Home to the bustling Canton Farmers’ Market each June through August, Brown Park offers something for everyone all year long. Nestled on one acre in Downtown Canton and named for Judge and Governor Joseph Emerson Brown whose home once stood nearby, this shady greenspace sits behind the newly renovated History Cherokee and across the street from Canton’s iconic “It’s a Vibe” mural, painted on the conveniently located parking deck.
In addition to the free parking deck (use the lower level for covered spots), additional free parking surrounds the park curbside. On your visit, stop in History Cherokee for a Canton souvenir from the gift shop and a tour of the remarkable history of Cherokee County. History and culture lovers will also appreciate the history center’s outdoor public art sculptures as well as the park’s butterfly girl sculpture and historical monument memorializing several wars.
Families will enjoy Brown Park’s large playground complete with multiple slides and swings. The play area itself is mulched, while plenty of surrounding grassy areas invite visitors to bring a ball or frisbee or a blanket for lounging. While the children play, grownups won’t want to miss the wooden bench swing perfect for relaxing as well as the park’s Little Free Library (it’s free to take a book or leave a book)!
In walking distance of local foodie favorites such as Bizarre Coffee and The Salty Mule as well as A Cone to Pick ice cream parlor, the park’s picnic tables and benches make lunch or treats outdoors a must! Public restrooms are located on the far right of the park area, past the historic Canton Police Department building that overlooks the playground. Leashed dogs are welcome to join in the fun at Brown Park.
Opening day of the 2024 Canton Farmers’ Market is Saturday, June 1, 9 am–12:30 pm. For more information about History Cherokee, visit www.historycherokee.org.
