Cherokee County History Center
Unveiling the Legacy of Our History
History Cherokee, also known as the Cherokee County Historical Society, was founded in 1975 by a group of local individuals interested in preserving the history of Cherokee County. It plays a vital role in collecting, curating, and exhibiting artifacts, documents, photographs, and stories that reflect the area's historical journey.
History Cherokee is home to an archival collection consisting of over 100,000 items pertaining to Cherokee County’s rich history. The collection includes documents, books, photographs, oral histories, and objects ranging from Native American artifacts to farming tools. History Cherokee is an educational and inspiring stop along the way when visiting the "Coolest Small Town in America." We hope you find yourself taking in all the history and culture that defines the area at the History Cherokee Center in Downtown Canton.
As a small token of their appreciation, History Cherokee is offering all veterans and active military members free admission to the Cherokee County History Center throughout the month of November. Up to 4 of their guests will receive a discounted admission.
Temporary Exhibits
In addition to their permanent collection, the Cherokee History Museum has exciting, ever-changing temporary exhibits!
This winter, the Byron L. Dobbs Exhibit Gallery is set to host a heartwarming temporary exhibit, A Century of Toys: 100 Years of Play, just in time for the holiday season. Curated by Chuck Douglas, the collection spans three generations of his family’s cherished toys, alongside contributions from other families and History Cherokee’s archives.
Expect to see a blend of modern-day favorites and beloved vintage treasures, ensuring there’s something to stir nostalgia in every visitor. From classic toys that defined childhoods to recent creations, this exhibition promises a captivating experience for children and adults alike.
